My India Trip

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 13, 2012, 12:25 PM
  • Mood: Joy
Hello all,

I am back from my 6 weeks trip to India and also my longest absence from DA since the day I had joined the site 9 years ago.
Overall I spent a total of 42 days in the country, had been in 5 different states and about 20 or so different cities. I had been to the lowest southern point in India, place called Cape Comorin where three different seas meet. I had been to the mountains and beaches, populated cities and small villages, forests, wildlife reserves and many other interesting spots.

I had traveled by many different types of vehicles  including motorcycles, taxi cabs, rikshas, a horse, cars, full sleeper, semi-sleeper and coach buses, trains, subways, planes, boats and more. I have also rented a car and a motorcycle in Goa and had experienced crazy Indian driving first hand.

I have visited many different temples and memorable spots including,  Taj Mahal and Red Fort in Agra, Hare Krishna and Dwarkadhish temples in Mathura, Lotus Temple and India Gate in Delhi, Gateway of India in Mumbai, Jantar Mantar in Delhi, Backwater ride in Kerala, beaches of Goa, mountains of Uttar Pradesh and many more. I seriously recommend to see Akshardham temple in New Delhi, as I was more impressed with that place then Taj Mahal. It was the most amazing architectural structure made by man I ever seen. Check it out yourself.

Had some unforgettable experiences, such as chasing after a train in Mathura, getting into argument with taxi drivers in Agra, dancing on the top of the hills  in Lensdowne, getting high in Goa, driving in Goa, looking for Bhang at 2am in the morning in the slams of Mumbai, playing Holi, boat rides through the waters of Kerala, eating new food and experiencing something different every single day of the trip!

India!!!
You will be missed.
And I am coming back for more....

Floating Island WIP
This is a wip(work in progress) image of a project I am currently working on. Its about $90 done when it comes to modeling. I got to UV map some stuff. Create a ton of textures and then render. If someone wants to collaborate with me on the texture creations... I would welcome that. Its just a lot of work...

Model made in maya. Its about 400K Polygons right now.

Work is based on the concept by another artist. See it here Island Town concept by martydesign

Funny enough, there has been a recent (and somewhat lengthy) discussion on our admin forums about what constitutes "Black Art."  We're still working on a consensus - mostly owing to the fact that everyone has their own aesthetic.
Honestly, I'd recommend simply submitting anything that you feel fits - e.g. items like the works I recommended to our gallery.  Worst case scenario: we would simply decline the piece and thank you for your time and interest.  Often, our admins enjoy the chance to look at a lovely image, even if it is declined, and will pass it around to the rest of us for enjoyment (and possibly submission to their other galleries, if applicable) - so even a piece that is not accepted can help draw attention to your work.
I'm in sort of the same boat as you, actually.  My lady is of East Indian and Native South American ancestry, with a smidgeon of African and Portuguese; and I often find myself wondering if such images belong in an Afro-centric group gallery.  The same is true of the tribe I invented for a fantasy-type setting, who have more in common with the natives of Amazonia and Papua New Guinea than Africa.  So far, though, no one has complained.  In fact, they've made me an admin; so I recommend going for it.  ^_^
